ABOUT THIS CALCULATOR

What is the Stamp Duty & Registration Calculator?

When you buy a property, the price you pay the builder or seller isn't the final cost. State governments mandate a Stamp Duty tax and a Registration fee to legally transfer the property title to your name. These charges can add a significant 5% to 7% to your total budget, which must be paid upfront.

What this calculation assumes

  • Stamp duty is charged on the agreement value or the ready reckoner value, whichever is higher — so the department's figure can be above your purchase price.
  • Rates differ by state and city, and several states charge less when the buyer is a woman. The rates above are only starting points — confirm the current rate for your property before you budget.
  • Registration is usually a percentage of the value with an upper limit; both are editable above.
  • GST applies only to under-construction property. For a ready flat with an occupancy certificate, leave it at 0.
  • Society transfer charges, legal fees and the broker's fee are not included.

The result is an estimate to help you plan. Your bank, insurer or fund house will confirm the exact figures, and market-linked returns are never guaranteed.
